Lead, South Dakota – Hard Rock Rescue is proud to announce the launch of its mine safety training, emergency response, and operational support services for surface and underground metal and non-metal mining operations throughout the Western United States.

Founded by Paul “Woody” Hover, CMSP, NREMT, Hard Rock Rescue was built on decades of hands-on mining, mine rescue, and emergency response experience. The company focuses on providing practical, real-world support for mining operations, exploration companies, and contractors seeking to improve safety performance, strengthen emergency preparedness, and support operational compliance.

Hard Rock Rescue offers on-site training, site-specific safety planning, operational assessments, emergency response support, and mine rescue consulting tailored to the unique conditions of each operation. Services are designed to help crews and management teams improve readiness, communication, and day-to-day safety practices in the field.

“I’ve spent my career working in underground and surface mining environments and understand the realities crews face every day,” said Paul “Woody” Hover, founder of Hard Rock Rescue. “Our goal is to provide practical training and support that mining operations can actually use in real-world situations not just check-the-box programs.”

Hover began his mine rescue career in 1995 as a member of the Homestake Mine Rescue Team and has continued serving in mine rescue and emergency response leadership roles throughout his career. He later served as supervisor for the combined full-time and part-time Emergency Response Team at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead, South Dakota. Alongside his mining experience, he has also maintained a parallel career in Fire, Rescue, and EMS services.

Hard Rock Rescue supports operations across exploration, development, and production phases, working directly with crews in active mining environments throughout the region.

Services include:

  • On-Site Mine Safety Training

  • Site-Specific Safety Plans and Assessments

  • Emergency Response and Mine Rescue Support

  • Compliance and Operational Safety Support
